The Barnett Government was forced to junk a major report in 2011 that Treasurer Troy Buswell commissioned in 2009 reviewing WA’s industrial relations. The Government revealed it would not be proceeding with any of the 193 recommendations from the $850,000 review.
The review was conducted by Steven Amendola, one of John Howard’s architects of Work Choices, who undertook it without a formal payment agreement. When costs blew out well beyond the $500,000 originally estimated the Government pleaded with Amendola to reduce his charges. Amendola flatly refused to provide cut price advice and the state had no choice but to cough up an additional $350,000.
After all that bother the Government, sensing how unpopular the reports contents were, shelved the report and hoped everyone would forget about it.
